Road Trip to Vayots Dzor Province, Armenia

You have decided to take a road trip and explore different sights of Armenia. Only about 1.5-2 hour drive from Yerevan, Vayots Dzor has so much to offer! The infrastructure is well maintained and the nature through the whole trip is just mesmerizing.

So where should you go and what should you see, if you take a roadtrip to Vayots Dzor?

What to See

Start by visiting our office in downtown Yerevan and choose the best option to rent a vehicle to start your adventures. Our team at Enterprise is ready to give any recommendations needed in choosing your car and other necessary details when driving in the area. As you start the road trip, be ready to see a whole new world!

Vayots Dzor region is completely different than what you would normally find in Yerevan. Look around and see the unique composition of rocks and trees.

On your way to Yeghegnadzor is Areni village, famous for its historical caves. About ten years ago, a 5500 year old leather shoe has been found at one of the caves in the village, which is believed to be the oldest shoe in the world. So, drive around the caves or stop by and explore what is inside them.

Around 10 kilometers away from Areni is Noravank – one of the most mesmerizing monasteries you will ever see in Armenia, located in a beautiful gorge all around. Built in the 13th century, there is a well constructed road to drive up to the church and see the view from above.

If you are having trouble navigating your way around, stop the car and make conversations with other people. Armenians are generally friendly and will give you the needed directions. And if you have any issues you find challenging, contact our team at Enterprise - we are there to support you 24/7.

What to Eat and Drink

You have now made it to Vayots Dzor but are hungry and need to eat some good food.

Stop by at the travellers’ favorite place - Yeghegnadzor Food Court. This is a very common place for people to take a break when they are either going to a place in Vayots Dzor or continuing their road even further to Syunik region and beyond.

So, besides finding good food, you are likely to meet many foreigners who are exploring the country. They are either in tourist buses or have decided to take charge of their own time and are renting cars just like you.

All in all, Vayots Dzor is a great weekend getaway, if you are looking to explore more of Armenia’s beautiful nature and want an opportunity to make connections with locals & other foreigners. Plan your adventures with renting a car of your own and our team at Enterprise will be there to support you in any part of that journey!
