Culture and hard work created Enterprise
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is an ongoing success story. Our guiding principles, and humble beginning, revolve around personal honesty and integrity. We believe in strengthening our communities one at a time. Serving our customers as if they were our family. And rewarding hard work. These things are as true today as they were when we were founded in 1957.
Today, our extensive network, fleet and range of services position Enterprise as part of the largest transportation solutions provider in the world. We offer our customers local and airport rentals, car sharing, exotic car hire and van hire, along with our Flex-E-Rent service, providing business solutions for specialised vehicle needs including temperature-controlled vans and accessible minibuses. We’re in more than 85 countries with over 7,600 locations. What does this mean to our customers? We're there when you need us.
We take an active role in sustainability, not only because it’s smart for our business, but because we believe in making the world a better place for future generations. Because of our size, we are in a unique position to foster innovation, advance research and test market-driven solutions.
Founder Jack Taylor selected the name Enterprise as a salute to the WWII aircraft carrier he served on, the USS Enterprise. Today, the "Enterprise" name is synonymous with the leadership and vision of the business.
Enterprise has over 7,600 locations in more than 85 countries.
Enterprise has pledged to plant 50 million trees in 50 years.
“Take care of your customers and your employees first, and the profits will follow.”
One man's vision is how the Enterprise story begins. Back in 1957 Jack Taylor, a decorated WWII pilot returned home, with hopes to build a business and start a family.
Using lessons learned in the U.S. Navy - including the value of hard work, team spirit and simply doing the right thing - Jack embraced the novel concept of leasing automobiles, with a fleet of seven cars.
Enterprise is now a household name for frequent travellers and road trippers. We're a brand that's recognised as a worldwide leader in the car rental industry. We value our employees and customers as much as a member of the family. Today Enterprise continues to drive success through a simple, yet powerful set of beliefs to become a leader in car rental, as well as in sustainability and innovation.
With seven cars and a hunch that customers will embrace the novel concept of hiring automobiles, Jack Taylor founds Executive Leasing Company in St. Louis.
Jack listens to his customers and hears that they need to rent cars while theirs are being repaired. Executive Leasing Co. adds a rental car business division with a fleet of 17 vehicles. The company also starts a Car Sales division.
Jack and team are ready to expand the company beyond St. Louis. With this expansion, Jack renames his growing operation "Enterprise" in honour of the aircraft carrier on which he served.
Enterprise opens its first international office in Windsor, Canada. By this time the company has more than 200,000 rental vehicles and 1,500 locations. A year later, in 1994, the first European office in Reading, England, opens its doors.
Enterprise opens its first on-airport rental location at the Denver International Airport. The company operates more than 250,000 rental vehicles.
Enterprise operates more than 6,000 offices in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland and Germany. In the US, it has locations within 15 miles of 90 per cent of the population. The company has 600,000 rental cars and 135,000 Fleet Management vehicles in service.
