Visiting Armenia on a Budget

Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery

A remarkable and unique witness of the history Garni Temple was constructed in the 1st century AD. This is a sample of Hellenistic Architecture in Armenia and the only pagan temple still existing in the country after adopting Christianity as an official religion.  According to the pagan history, the temple is dedicated to God of the Sun and pagan people in the country still celebrate some traditions in the temple.  The entrance for the tourists is to the temple is not expensive and costs approximately $4.

If you plan to go to Garni temple, you can easily get the Geghard monastery killing two birds with one stone. The distance between them is not big and is approximately 11 km. On the way to the temple and monastery, you can find many restaurants offering food of traditional cuisine, providing master classes of baking traditional bread ''lavash'' and you may even learn traditional dances.

Tatev Monastery

If you want to further explore Armenia, make stops whenever you want and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes, you can rent a car from Enterprise Armenia, and head out to Tatev Monastery.

Situated 250km away from Yerevan, Tatev Monastery is considered the diamond of Armenian architecture and history, which is hidden in the heart of the mountains and constructed in the 9-13th centuries. Once it was quite difficult to get there, because you had to pass the steep road, the river through the Devil’s bridge, however, now you can get the monastery quite easily due to the ropeway “Wings of Tatev” having the length of 5.7 km, which is the longest in the world so far, registered in the Guiness. Also, tourist attractions Armenia are suitable for extreme lovers as well. Visit Yenoqavan, Yell Extreme Park, Tsaghkadzor and other mountainous regions and you will get adrenaline from ziplining, paragliding, horseback riding, climbing and so on.
